What is Negin Saffron?

One of the types of saffron is Negin saffron, the most beautiful variety among the different kinds. The thicker the threads, the higher its price, and it may be upgraded to the name Super Negin. To identify this type of saffron, it is essential first to recognize its physical appearance, so that you can easily identify it when necessary. Typically, due to its high quality, this type of saffron holds significant value. Additionally, Negin saffron has many medicinal properties.

In general, what differentiates various types of saffron, such as Negin saffron, Dokhtar Pich saffron, and other types, is the way the stigmas are separated. In fact, the cultivation method for all types of saffron is similar, and the differences stem from the drying and cleaning processes. Negin saffron usually refers to saffron where, during the cleaning process, the three stigmas are completely separated from the white (root) and orange (style) parts. Moreover, it should contain no color other than red. The thicker and larger the stigmas, the greater its coloring power, and the more attractive its appearance.

Certainly, it is important to note here that the thicker the saffron stigmas, the more likely it is that a significant amount of chemical fertilizers were used during its cultivation.

Super Negin Saffron

One of the types of Negin saffron is Super Negin saffron. This product is one of the highest quality and best saffrons available. It is considered the “passport” of saffron in the world. Compared to other types of saffron, this variety has a higher quality and price.

This type of saffron has excellent coloring quality and a beautiful appearance. Therefore, it is an excellent choice for export to countries like India, China, and Japan, and in general, to Asian countries.

Grade 2 Negin Saffron

This type of saffron, among the Negin varieties, is considered to have medium to high quality. It is also very suitable for export.

Pressed Negin Saffron

The difference with this type of saffron lies in its drying method. If the tips of the stigmas are flattened or shaped like a sword due to physical pressure or air force, this type of saffron is produced. Pressed Negin saffron has recently become very popular and is commonly used for export.

Semi-Negin Saffron

Another type of Negin saffron is Semi-Negin saffron. This saffron has lower quality compared to other types of saffron. However, an important point about it is its reasonable price. Therefore, this type of saffron is recommended for categorization purposes.

Difference Between Negin and Sargol Saffron

Distinguishing Negin saffron from Sargol saffron is quite difficult for the average person because these two products are very similar. The main difference is that Negin saffron stigmas are thick and large, smooth, without any curling, and unbroken, with all stigmas being uniformly thick and robust. On the other hand, Sargol saffron stigmas are shorter, may have slight curling, and can sometimes be broken. Additionally, Sargol stigmas vary in thickness.

Characteristics of Negin Saffron

This type of saffron is known for its stunning appearance and remarkable aroma. It is considered the most attractive type of saffron. The key characteristics of Negin saffron include:

  • The stigmas are arranged neatly and consistently.
  • It has a very high fragrance.

What is Pressed Negin Saffron?

Pressed Negin saffron refers to thin, brittle saffron that is carefully preserved due to its delicate nature. Farmers typically harvest saffron flowers, not the saffron itself, as each flower contains three saffron stigmas that must be separated from the flower.

Saffron retains moisture while still in the flower, making it unusable at this stage. Therefore, after separating the saffron from the flower, it needs to be dried. Various methods, such as manual and mechanical drying, are used.

If Negin saffron is dried manually, the process may result in some curling of the saffron threads, as the manual process might not produce completely straight threads. (Straightness is a significant criterion for exports to some countries like China). As a result, machines and systems are often used for drying saffron. Saffron dried with these systems usually has a straighter and more attractive appearance, referred to as Pressed Negin saffron.

Is Negin Saffron Better Than Sargol?

Negin saffron is widely recognized as the most beautiful saffron in the world and is of superior quality. Given its characteristics, it is considered better than Sargol saffron. It is also worth mentioning that due to its higher quality, Negin saffron is more valuable and commands a higher price than Sargol saffron.
